On the 18th of January, the Indigenous People's March came together at the Department of the Interior from all over Turtle Island. From there the march proceeded to the Lincoln Memorial. Three speakers there featured on video: a welcome to Piscataway land, a warning not to take buyouts from petroleum companies, and an Ojibwe great-grandmother on how so many prophecies such as the Black Snake are coming true

Mayor Bowser VETOES Metro fare decriminalization bill

Update Jan 22: DC Council overrides Mayor's veto, fare evasion will be decriminalized unless Congress intervenes. Mayor "more cops more jails" Bowser defeated again.

On the 16th of January, DC Mayor Bowser VETOED the Metro fare decriminalization bill. The bill passed the DC Council by a 10-2 margin, enough to override the Mayor's veto if nobody changes their vote. Metro police have been aggressively targeting Black youth for enforcement and arrest on fare evasion charges. This could perhaps be called "Make Metro White Again.

Protesters descend on Canadian Embassy against raid on Wetsuwet'en anti-pipeline checkpoint

On the 8th of January, both Native and non-Native activists and showed up at the Canadian Embassy to protest an armed RCMP raid on checkpoints set by Wetsuwet'en First Nations people against a TransCanada gas pipeline project. The DC protest was one of a series of protests all over Turtle Island in solidarity with the Wetsuwet'en.

Cops arrest four counterprotesters as half dozen fascists at White House make fools of themselves

On the 5th of January, barely over half a dozen fascists organized by Proud Boys expellee Jovi Val showed up in front of the White House. They were there to defend Cville car ramming driver James Fields and Proud Boys facing felonies for a brutal beatdown in NYC in October 2018. Instead, they spent all their time arguing with people, and their statements defending James Fields led to some kind of incident ending with four counterprotesters being arrested.

Update Jan 7 13:30PM:All arrestees have been released after spending nearly 48 hours in Enemy hands. Cases are not dropped however.

The Proud Boys are not welcome in our city. Let’s tell them, “DC means Don’t Come!” Meet up at 11 AM on Saturday, Jan 5 at McPherson Square Metro station (1400 I st NW), and march to Lafayette Park to stop the Proud Boys from spewing Nazi hate.

People for Fairness Coalition marches coffin to City Hall to remember 54 who died in 2018

On the 20th of December, the People for Fairness Coalition carried a casket from a church near Logan Circle to Freedom Plaza in front of the Wilson Building(city hall) to remember 54 homeless people who died on the streets of DC this past year.

Justice for Jakelin protest held at Customs and Border "Protection"

On the 17th of December, pro-migrant activists gathered outside the office of Customs and Border "protection" aptly located in the Ronald Reagan Building on Penn Ave. Activists were in front of CPB to protest the death of a 7 year old Mayan girl from Guatamala named Jakelin in Customs and Border "protection" custody. Flowers and bottled water were left on the building at the conclusion of the rally.
