Protest against Trump's Muslim ban 3.0 marches from White House to Trump Hotel

On the 17th of October, a Federal court blocked Trump's third version of his Muslim Ban in response to a lawsuit by Hawaii. Trump being certain to appeal as before, mobilizing continues against the ban. On Oct 18, the day it was supposed to go into effect, a large protest marched from the White House to Trump Hotel.

Trump tax cut speech for Heritage Foundation draws protest, "Tax Chicken"

On the 17th of October, Donald Trump gave a speech for the Heritage Foundation at the Marriot at 901 Mass Ave. Organizers of the April 15th Tax March set up the "Tax Chicken" in the adjacent park, then they and other protesters marched onto the sidewalk where Heritage members and Trump supporters were filing in.

Hundreds protest on Rumsey Bridge against Potomac Pipeline

On the 14th of October, over 350 people participated in "Hands Across the Potomac, a protest against TransCanada's proposed Potomac Pipeline for fracked gas. After assembling in Shepherdstown, W Va for speakers, protesters marched onto the Rumsey Bridge over the Potomac, lining the downstream rail from W Va to MD.

Brazilian fascist Jair Bolsonaro forced to cancel GW University speech

On the 13th of October,extreme-right Brazilian congressman Jair Bolsonaro was forced to cancel his planned appearance at George Washington University after students began mobilizing against him. He is a far-right fascist planning to run for President of Brazil. In a recent scandal Bolsonaro called for the execution by firing squad of the curators of an LGBTQ art exhibit.

Fair Trade advocates Protest Trump's NAFTA renegotiation talks

On the 11th of October, the 4th round of NAFTA renegotiation talks opened at the Pentagon City Sheraton in Virginia. Outside, protesters demanded NAFTA be scrapped instead, and a banner across the street read "Fix it or Nix it. Similar posters appeared all over Capitol Hill and around the IMF and World Bank, which meet Oct 13-15.

Immigrants and supporters March from ICE to Wilson Buildng demanding Mayor Bowser block further raids

In the last week of September, ICE and Trump brazenly declared war on sanctuary cites such as DC, sending ICE to raid homes and detain over 450 people. Fourteen were taken by these terrorists here in DC. On Oct 4, immigrants and supporters marched from ICE headquarters to the Wilson Building to demand that Mayor Bowser take action to prevent further raids. So far she has been silent on this assault immigrant communities.

DC Reinvest protests as Senate summons Wells Fargo CEO to hearing

On the 3rd of October, Well Fargo CEO Tim Sloan had to face the music, testifying in front of the Senate Banking Committee about the fraudulent loans and unauthorized accounts Wells Fargo opened in the names of unknowing account holders. Meanwhile, protesters from DC Reinvest were outside calling out Wells Fargo for other offenses such as funding gentrification, pipelines and private prisons.

Massive March for Racial Justice "takes a knee" at Trump Hotel

On the 30th of September, the March for Racial Justice and the March for Black Women converged at Lincoln Park and marched to the Mall. On the way, the march passed the Dept of "Justice" and Trump Hotel. At Trump Hotel many of the marchers stopped to "take a knee" and boo at the hotel.

Fascist cowards no-show at Mark Bray Antifa book event

On the 29th of September, Mark Bray spoke at Politics and Prose almost next door to Comet Pizza to promote his book "Antifa" subtitled "the anti-fascist handbook." Fascists were expected to attempt to disrupt this militantly anti-fascist event like earlier this year at Potter's House when another antifascist author spoke, but never showed up.

Metro riders objecting to police harassment at WMATA board meeting harassed by police

Update Sep 29:WTOP Radio reports WMATA board admits to "crackdown on fare evaders," students being pepper sprayed by police over missing cards for free travel, violent police assaults when riders defend themselves.

On the 28th of September, Metro riders organized by Save Our System descended on a WMATA board meeting scheduled at the deliberately inconvenient time of 9AM to air complaints about skyrocketing fares, service cuts, and police harassment. There was at least one ugly incident of a speaker objecting to racist harassment of riders by Metro police being harassed at the podium by these same cops.

On the 27th of September, the CounterRepressionSpokes bike ride set out from 12th and L sts in DC, bound for Pittsburgh via the C&O Canal towpath and other trails. The ride is raising money for Dead City Legal Posse(J20 defense), One People’s Project, and St. Louis Legal Fund. Each group gets 1/3 of all donations collected.

Update Sep 26: No vote this week after Sen Susan Collins declares she would vote NO. After Oct 1 60 votes needed as "reconciliation" process dies. Trumpcare 5.0 should be dead

On the 25th of September, over 50 activists from the disability rights groups ADAPT were arrested in a protest that shut down a Senate hearing on the Graham Cassidy bill. Graham-Cassidy is the latest and worst Trumpcare bill, among other things it would turn Medicaid into block grants to state governments.

DC Divestfest promotes citywide divestment from Wells Fargo and other big banks

On the 24th of September, multiple organizations came together at the Uptown Art House to stage DC Divestfest. This event promoted both individual and city government divestment from Well Fargo in particular and other pipeline funding, gentrifying, prison-funding banks in general.

ONE DC People's Platform puts Kenyan McDuffie on mock trial over Brookland Manor

On September 21, the monthly One DC People's Platform was held at Dance Place in the gentrification-beseiged Catholic University/Brookland neighborhood. The highlight of the event was a "people's trial" of DC Councilmember Kenyon McDuffie for multiple offenses related to his aiding and abetting displacement and gentrification of the Brookland Manor apartements

Nazis, alt-right show up at fizzled Trump/MAGA "Mother of all Rallies"

On the 16th of September, Trump supporters held their "Mother of All Rallies" on the Mall, only to draw a very small turnout compared to promises. They reserved two panels of the Mall, but at times had only a few hundred people, and one Twitter poster claimed up to half were counterprotesters. Dozens of the MOAR attendees were "alt-right" white supremacists, some with explicitly white supremacist flags and emblems.

Protests mark 1 yr anniversary of police shooting of Terrence Sterling

On September 11, 2016, MPD officer Brian Trainer shot and killed Terrence Sterling at 3rd and M sts NW at about 4:20 AM. One year later at the same time, protesters gathered at the same intersection demanding that Brian Trainer be fired. The first protest was a vigil from 4AM until about 9AM, at 6PM protesters returned for a march on the FOP and MPD headquarters
