Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 12/02/2014 - 13:55

On the 2nd of December, opponents of Dominion Resources plans for fracked gas export out of Cove Point, MD showed up outside the "offsite A" construction area off MD 2-4 and Cove Point Road. Over 40 people showed up in cold rain to demand that Lusby and Cove Point not become "sacrifice areas" for energy export.

Ferguson protesters block 14th st bridge

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 12/01/2014 - 15:59

On the 1st of December, Ferguson protesters blocked the 14th st Bridge for about 1/2 hour in AM rush hour. This was the day after a similar protest blocked I-395 on perhaps the busiest travel day of the year. There was one ugly incident involving a motorist in an expensive Mercedes who tried to push through the blockade but was stopped. This was shortly after another motorist was allowed to pass after saying he was going to a dialysis appointment. Apparently letting one car pass made other drivers more aggressive. The line of protesters blocked the bridge until shortly after the cops read out the required 1st of three warnings for a mass arrest, then marched off the bridge.

We are Cove Point blockades Solomons pier construction site, 7 arrests

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 12/01/2014 - 15:14

On the 1st of December, two residents of Lusby, MD and 5 supporters were arrested in Solomons, MD blocking the gate of Dominion's "offsite B" construction site. Dominion's mostly Texan workforce is scrambling to complete this pier before a Dec 16 moratorium on construction in the water that lasts until mid-March. The Solomons pier is intended for loading "megaloads" from barges onto trucks to travel to Dominion's fracked gas export site at Cove Point, MD.

Chesapeake Earth First! redecorates at offices of Enbridge lobbyist Hill and Knowlton

Submitted by Luke on Sun, 11/30/2014 - 18:36

On the 30th of November, Chesapeake Earth First!, responding to a solidarity call from Idle No More, redecorated sidewalks and construction boards at the offices of Hill and Knowlton. Hill and Knowlton is the main DC area lobbyist for tar sands pipeline company Enbridge. Enbridge is infamous for trying to build tar sands pipelines over the objections of First Nations communities in Occupied Canada. Each of these is another Keystone XL, like the Keystone all of them cross Indigenous lands, and all of them must be and will be stopped.

On the 29th of November, DC Ferguson protesters marched through Georgetown and shut down the streets. When the march headed out of Georgetown, marchers transitioned from the sidewalks to block shoppers who did not drive in from reaching the doors of upscale stores. Strikers, supporters at Ga Ave Wal-Mart protest as store opens on holiday

Submitted by Luke on Thu, 11/27/2014 - 22:45

The new Wal-Mart stores in DC chose to open on the settler holiday known as Thanksgiving, a day most workers get to spend with their families. As they did, striking Wal-Mart associates backed by community activsts and supporters set up a mock dinner table outside the Ga Ave Wal-Mart to distribute cupcakes and fliers while they picketed. Police tried to intimidate them out of having a table on public space but Rev Hagler stood his ground and it was the police who backed away.

On the 26th of November, associates at the 1st and H st Wal-Mart went on strike, staging a sit-in in the aisles of the store with picket signs. The demand is simple: that management stop retaliating against workers who demand pay raises or better conditions.

DC Ferguson marchers take over streets, storm Wal-Mart

Submitted by Luke on Wed, 11/26/2014 - 01:27

On the 25th of November, thousands took to the streets for the second night of DC Ferguson protests responding the the grand jury's refusal to indict killer cop Darren Wilson. The protest took over the streets and blocked the intersection of NY Ave and 395 before marching south-and storming the Wal-Mart on H st. The only looting was the usual looting by Wal-Mart's bosses, stealing from their associates with their law wages and terrible working conditions. Protesters made it plain they were after management, not the associates actually working late to put food on their family tables.

Wal-Mart is known to have donated $10,000 to killer cop Darren Wilson's legal defense fund, so on Nov 25 DC Ferguson marchers "indicted" Wal-Mart for obstructing justice by storming the H st store!

Die-in at DC Police headquarters protests Ferguson, killer cops

Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 11/25/2014 - 13:02

On the 25th of November, people outraged by the refusal of the Ferguson grand jury to indict killer cop Darren Wilson staged a die-in at DC police headquarters. The die-in lasted 4 1/2 minutes, one minute for each hour Michael Brown's body was left in the street by the St Louis police department. DC cops too routinely shoot and kill African-American youth, they too need to listen to the fury of the streets on this issue.

Submitted by Luke on Tue, 11/18/2014 - 13:18

On the 18th of November, activists associated with the Cowboy-Indian Alliance against the Keystone XL occupied the office of pro-Keystone Senator Michael Bennet. They were supported by student climate activists in taking over the office of this Democratic Senator who is being counted as a "for" vote in the scheduled Nov 18 vote (today) on the pipeline.

Pro-KLX Sen Mary Landreau gets home demo on Capitol Hill

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 11/17/2014 - 14:08

Early morning on November 17, pro-Keystone XL Democratic Senator Mary Landreau found protesters on her lawn, showing once again that the Keystone XL is the Huntingdon Life Sciences of oil. More than 50 protesters and a replica of the pipeline were there, early on a very rainy Monday morning. Meanwhile the Rosebud Sioux have declared that any attempt to cross their sovereign land to build the pipeline will be treated as an act of war. The reservation will be closed and equipment will be kept out.

Code Pink protests at "Freedom Checkpoints" outside Concert for Valor

Submitted by Luke on Tue, 11/11/2014 - 23:05

On the 11th of November, on the 96th anniversary of the end of WWI, Code Pink showed up outside the police checkpoints and cattle chute fences of the so-called "Concert for Valor" on the Mall. Code Pink was protesting the US return to war in Iraq. During this protest, an incident inside drew a massive police response. I do not know if this was the incident where police pepper sprayed and arrested three people for jumping a fence, or yet another incident. Again, "freedom" American style.

Net Neutrality activists blockade FCC Chair Tom Wheeler's driveway

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 11/10/2014 - 21:31

On the 10th of November, net neutrality activists decided to show FCC chairman Tom Wheeler just what the "slow lanes" he is proposing for websites that don't pay a premium to Big Cable and Big Phone would mean. They set up a physical slow lane just for him by staging a sit-in blocking his driveway as he attempted to get in his car and drive somewhere.
