FOOD deliveries to beseiged Embassy of Venezuala spark confrontations and arrests

Submitted by Luke on Thu, 05/02/2019 - 23:15

On the 2nd of May, DC area progressive activists made a determined attempt to resupply the Embassy Protection Collective in the beseiged Venezualan Embassy. They were partially successful-some of the food got in, but confrontations and arrests resulted. One Code Pink activist has been charged with "throwing a MISSILE(!) for allegedly tossing food to the defenders inside the Embassy.

Submitted by Luke on Thu, 05/02/2019 - 02:03

On May 1, DC area activists celebrated International Workers' Day with a march into followed by a festival in Malcolm X Park. False Venezualan "Ambassador" Carlos Vecchio leaves Embassy in defeat

Submitted by Luke on Thu, 05/02/2019 - 00:47

On May 1st, defenders of the Embassy of Venezuala won a major victory over Guaido's "Ambassador" Carlos Vecchio. Vecchio expected the SS to storm the building and hand it over to he and his staff. That did NOT occur on May 1, though the risk of it remains with the SS citing a "process." He tried to give a speech to his supporters, only to flee in defeat and disgrace after being shouted down by the defenders of the beseiged Embassy of Venezuala.

Pro-Guaido Protesters and Thugs Protected by the Secret Service Descend on the Venezuelan Embassy (Video)

Submitted by a l c h y m e d i a on Wed, 05/01/2019 - 22:24

Guaido supporters rally in front of the Venezuelan Embassy calling for the removal of the Embassy Protection Collective. Secret Service has allowed them control of the front door of the embassy and also full access to the back door where they are free to harrass, intimidate and block anyone trying to enter the embassy or record their actions. Supporters of the embassy residents have been corralled to the opposite side of the street, giving opposition thugs complete control of the perimeter of the embassy.

Embassy Protection Collective HOLDING Embassy of Venezuala against Trump-backed forces of Juan Guaido

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 04/29/2019 - 00:41

Update Apr 29:US backed Venezualan opposition claims they will take over Embassy "this week" but this would require considerable force to be used against those who are legally occupying the building. Reinforcements needed!

Since early April, Code Pink and allied groups have been living in and holding the Embassy of Venezuala, keeping out the Trump-backed opposition forces of self-declared "president" Juan Guaido. Diplomats from Venezuala's current government were ordered out of the US, but on the way out they handed the Embassy over to Code Pink for safekeeping. April 28th it appeared that Secret Service might attempt to retake the building but the attack never materialized.

On the 25th of April, Washington Teacher's Union showed up at Freedom Plaza demanding the City Council amend the upcoming FY budget to fully fund public schools in all 8 wards. It is well known the Mayor prefers to focus on other priorities such as charter schools, stadiums, and anything else to encourage the "New Washingtonians" and their condos to come.

Chelsea still in jail after 4th Circuit Court of Appeals reject appeal and rejects bail

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 04/25/2019 - 13:49

On the 22nd of April, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Chelsea Manning's appeal and denied bail, keeping her in jail where she has been since the 9th of March for defying a grand jury's subpeona to snitch on (presumably) Julian Assange and Wikileaks. Of course, a "Grumbles" motion can be tried again at any time, since the root of it is to show that no amount of confinement can get the target to testify, making confinement punitive rather than probative and thus illegal for civil contempt. Only the U$ and Liberia still use grand juries at all.

Controversy erupts as yuppie dog walkers invade Howard University

Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 04/20/2019 - 14:58

In recent weeks, white dog walkers from nearby condos have been literally shitting on parts of Howard University deemed sacred space by some students. Meanwhile, African-American dog walkers from neighborhoods near Howard generally do NOT walk their dogs at Howard according to the Washington Post. The hashtag "#HUisNotADogPark" has arisen on Twitter, and the push to remove the yuppie dog walkers from Howard has been tied to the succesful #dontmutedc campaign that restored go-go music to MetroPCS after a resident of the upscale Shay effectively ordered it stopped.

Rent-striking tenants of 1454 Irving backed by supporters rally and march on 14th st

Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 04/07/2019 - 15:45

On the 5th of April rent-striking tenants of 1454 Irving St NW rallied at Columbia Heights Civic Plaza and then marched on 14th st.This was the second Friday in a row of these protests. Tenants are withholding rent in opposition to what appears to be an attempt at "eviction by neglect" with mold, broken heat, and pest infestation intentionally not repaired. The landlord has made it clear he wants the tenants OUT. Many have been there since the 1970's and the surrounding area has been gentrified.
