Submitted by Luke on Sun, 12/02/2018 - 22:40

On the 2nd of December, one of many "Extinction Rebellion" events held across Turtle Island demanding action on climate change was held in front of the US Capitol. Activists assembled in a nearby park, read out a statement of rebellion against the US government for ignoring climate change, and marched to the Capitol. Upon arrival they convened a People's Climate Emergency Congress on 1st street, the Capitol being closed off to prepare for HW Bush's funeral.

Submitted by Luke on Sun, 11/18/2018 - 19:27

On the 17th of November, a front group for the Proud Boys held a "We the People" rally in Philadelphia. Also present were the Keystone State Skinheads and 3%er militia elements. A much larger counterprotest confronted them. Unfortunately, other fascists wearing badges and police uniforms used great effort to protect their comrades in the rally. Philly cops beat and assaulted protesters in multiple incidents

Big White House protest after Trump fires Sessions in effort to shut down Mueller's probe

Submitted by Luke on Fri, 11/09/2018 - 01:33

Former Atty General Jeff Sessions was among Trump's worst, most racist nominations for high office. This however was not enough for Trump, as Jeff Sesions recused himself from the Russiagate probe instead of seeking to defund and shut it down. One day after the 2018 midterm election, Donald Trump forced Sessions to resign for that. In response thousands of protesters descended on the White House. Thousands more gathered in hundreds of other cities.

Submitted by Luke on Fri, 11/09/2018 - 00:06

On the 8th of November, less than 24 hours after protesters showed up at the home of far-right media personality Tucker Carlson, cops showed up knocking on a local activist's door. This was not the same activist who was harassed after the Aug 12 "Unite the Right II" counterprotests but another activist.

Kurds, Allies protest renewed Turkish shelling and bombing of Syrian civilians

Submitted by Luke on Mon, 11/05/2018 - 20:59

Since the end of October Erdogen's fascist/Islamist regime in Turkey hs again been shelling and bombing northern Syria. One of these bombings killed a small child on her way to school. On the 5th of November, Kurdish activists and their supporters showed up at the US Department of State. US action to end the attacks could be as simple as an ultimatum to Turkey to stop the bombing or face a US arms embargo.

One of three embattled Congress Heights apartment buildings burns.

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 11/02/2018 - 17:20

For years developer Geoff Griffis and his friends at CityPartners LLC have been trying to evict the tenants of the Congress Heights apartments in SE DC so a "mixed-use" condo and office building could be put up over the Congress Heights Metro. For years these plans have been stalled by tenant protests and activism. Griffis has had protesters at his house and WMATA refused to sell him a key parcel. Now, on the night of Nov 1 to Nov 2, one of the three buildings has burned. Tenants are urgently requesting assistance to replace possessions and repair fire damage.(GoFundMe page) Surely CityPartners LLC will give them nothing-the fire is just too convenient for their plans.

On the 26th of October, transgender activists and allies showed up at Zorbas, a supposedly GLBTQ friendly restaurant just north of Dupont Circle in DC. They were there to educate diners about the ongoing murder of transgender people and especially transgender people of color in the US. The case of Crystal Lee was cited as an example. The response by Zorba's staff was to summon the police.

Protest remembering murdered Trans Women Marches into Columbia Heights restaurants

Submitted by Luke on Sat, 10/20/2018 - 17:33

On the 19th of October, Transgender activists and their allies gathered at the Columbia Heights Metro and marched into a variety of area restaurants. The protest was on behalf of the shocking number of transgender people who have been murdered, and focussed on the case of Jennefer Laude, a Filipina transgender woman who was murdered by a US Marine who claimed "self-defense" for strangling her to death after finding she was transgender.

The protest visited Chipotle, Starbucks, a branch of the notoriously homophobic Chick-Fil-A chain, and Z-Burger. Not surprisinly the worst issues with threats from staff were at Chick-Fil-A.

Charles County residents may have DEFEATED proposed Dominion compressor station

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 10/15/2018 - 17:37

Residents of both Accokeek, MD and Cove Point, MD may have just won a major victory. In the face of unrelenting, "not one step back" community opposition, Dominion Energy is claiming to have thrown in the towel on building a crucial fracked gas compressor station in Charles County, MD near Accokeek. While this has yet to be entered into the court docket of a related lawsuit, it would be foolish for Dominion to publicly state they have cancelled the compressor station if they still intend to build in Charles County.
