Uber Driver tries to push through Black Lives Matter/Terrence Sterling Protest on NY Ave

Submitted by Luke on Tue, 10/18/2016 - 02:02

Monday the 17th of October marked 6 weeks since MPD shot Terrence Sterling dead for "erratic driving" on his motorcycle. It was also the 4th Monday in a row protesters shut down NY Ave just yards from where he was killed. This time around, there was plenty of "erratic driving" by an Uber driver pushing into protesters and a few other motorists squeezing through narrow gaps. Unlike what happened to Terrence Sterling, police did not respond by rolling down their windows and shooting the drivers.

"Trump is a Pig" posters appear on DC lamp posts

Submitted by Luke on Wed, 10/12/2016 - 14:17

Decades ago, scandal after scandal brought down former Reagan adminstration attorney general Edwin Meese III. As the scandals escalated, "Meese is a Pig" posters appeared all over DC, sometimes in huge clusters. The last batch read "Experts Agree-Meese is a Pig!" Now Donald Trump is receiving a taste of the same treatment in the wake of that raging sex tape scandal.

Submitted by Luke on Wed, 10/12/2016 - 14:09

On Oct 10, 2016, or"Columbus Day" the embassies of Spain and Italy laid wreaths at the Union Station monument to that genocidal madman who washed up half-drowned on the shores of Turtle Island over 500 years ago. Two days after that ugly wreath-laying, DC Standing Rock Solidarity held a ceremony of their own at the same spot. The focus of the Oct 12 ceremoney was indigenous solidarity and resistance to ongoing acts of colonialist aggression, especially the Dakota Access Pipeline aka the Black Snake.

Black Lives Matter blocks streets, chases cops off NY Ave for Terrence Sterling

Submitted by Luke on Tue, 10/04/2016 - 01:32

On the 3rd of October, Black Lives Matter activists swarmed onto NY Ave from 3ed and M st, and blockaded it in memory of Terrence Sterling. Two burning torches were in the march and smoke rose from sage smudging the area. When police ordered the blockade to disperse, people responded by advancing on the cops, who retreated with the crowd in pursuit. Cops by this means were able to lead the crowd off NY Ave, only to kick off a long march that blocked many streets.

Trump hotel redecorated with "Black Lives Matter"

Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 10/02/2016 - 13:22

On the 1st of October, the words "Black Lives Matter" and words and symbol for "No Justice No Peace" appeared on the walls at the very front entrance of the racist Trump Hotel on Penn Ave. This is an extremely gutsy direct action, driving the message home to a place white supremacists wrongly thought could not be attacked.

This photo was posted to Twitter by April D Ryan of the White House press corps, slightly cropped to fit. It has been widely recirculated. Some are thus attempting to give credit to the White House for the direct action, but Obama does not seem to be the "Black Bloc" masked anarchist type...

Oromo people march for end to US aid to Ethiopean regime

Submitted by Luke on Thu, 09/29/2016 - 14:37

On the 29th of September, Baltimore Bloc reported "3000+" in a march of mostly the Oromo people of Ethiopia and Kenya demanding an end to US and World Bank aid to the regime in Ethiopia. They are calling out the regime for genocide and the use of armed force to suppress peaceful protest against the Addis Ababa Integrated Master Plan, which would absorb tribal lands into the capital city and create mass displacement of farmers. The ruling TPLF/EPRDF party has been called a fascist party for their treatment of the Oromo people.

DC Standing Rock Solidarity presentation from front lines: protesters sprayed from aircraft with chemicals

Submitted by Luke on Thu, 09/29/2016 - 01:15

On the 28th of September, several activists who have been at Standing Rock recounted their experiences at St Stephens to the beginnings of the DC Standing Rock Solidarity group. They recounted the experiences at camp and gave an update on the legal status of the pipeline, in which the segment crossing the Missouri River is on hold due to legal cases concerning the river crossing and the Historic Preservation Act. They also mentioned new and ugly developments today in Standing Rock, where again loaded guns were pointed at water protectors-and an aircraft sprayed tear gas on their totally nonviolent corn planting ceremony. In addition 21 people were arrested.
